Float Switches
A float switch is a cabled level switch whose body floats on the liquid surface and changes its tilt with the level, opening and closing the contact inside. It is used in water tanks, wells and drainage pits to run the pump in the filling or emptying direction, to prevent dry running of the pump, and to detect water accumulation in an elevator pit. The category includes Tense FLT series cabled float switches and ASFLT series elevator level float switches; there are 1.6 m, 3 m, 5 m and 10 m cable lengths and models whose product data states an IP68 protection rating and an 8 A / 250 V AC contact rating. Choose the float switch according to a cable length sufficient for the tank depth, whether the contact rating meets the pump current, the filling or emptying function, the type of liquid and the protection rating. For pumps exceeding the contact rating, the float switch does not supply the motor directly; it controls the coil of the pump contactor. The products in this category are level float switches that provide an electrical contact; they are not float valves that mechanically shut off the water at the tank inlet.
