Ammeter Measuring Instruments
Ammeter measuring instruments are devices that show the current passing through a conductor in amperes; the models in this category measure without opening the circuit, by wrapping around the conductor or by being hung on the line. They are used to read load current on thick cables and busbars that a clamp jaw cannot fit around, in main distribution panels, and on high-voltage lines reached with an insulated pole. The Unit UT281E is a True RMS flex coil (flexible clamp) ammeter with AC current ranges of 30 A, 300 A and 3000 A; the UT255E measures current on low- and high-voltage lines with a hook detector mounted on an insulated pole and a wireless receiver. Compare the highest current to be measured, the conductor diameter and the way it is accessed, the voltage level of the line, the True RMS requirement, and the device's insulation strength and measurement category. For measurements at high voltage, the manufacturer's instructions and the operating procedure govern the working method and protective equipment. A flex coil measures only alternating current; it does not replace a Hall-effect clamp ammeter that measures direct current.

How to choose Ammeter Measuring Instruments
Ammeter measuring instruments are devices that show the current passing through a conductor in amperes; the models in this category measure without opening the circuit, by wrapping around the conductor or by being hung on the line. They are used to read load current on thick cables and busbars that a clamp jaw cannot fit around, in main distribution panels, and on high-voltage lines reached with an insulated pole.
- Identify the measurement or fastening task and the required insulation safety rating.
- Select jaw profile, cross-section range and accessories for the conductor or fastener standard.
- Check CAT voltage category and replacement tip or die availability for field conditions.
