Lighting Contactors
Lighting contactors are contactors with a modular housing that mounts on a DIN rail in a distribution panel and remotely switches building installation loads such as lighting and heating; they are also called installation contactors. They are used to switch building, parking lot and area lighting groups on with a time switch, photocell relay or building automation output, and also to switch heater and ventilation loads. The category includes the ABB ESB series installation contactors (types such as ESB16, ESB25, ESB40 and ESB63), the EH04 auxiliary contact blocks belonging to this series, and the Cata CT-9183. Choose the rated current according to the lamp type and inrush current, the number of poles and the NO/NC contact arrangement according to the circuit diagram, and the coil voltage according to the control source. Because LED drivers and luminaires with capacitors draw a high inrush current, rely on the number of luminaires in the manufacturer's lamp load table. A lighting contactor should not be confused with an impulse relay; a contactor pulls in as long as its coil stays energized, while an impulse relay changes position with each pulse.

How to choose Lighting Contactors
Lighting contactors are contactors with a modular housing that mounts on a DIN rail in a distribution panel and remotely switches building installation loads such as lighting and heating; they are also called installation contactors. They are used to switch building, parking lot and area lighting groups on with a time switch, photocell relay or building automation output, and also to switch heater and ventilation loads.
- Separate overcurrent/leakage protection, motor starting and local isolation requirements.
- Select rated current, pole count and breaking capacity (kA) from the installation calculation.
- Match coil voltage, auxiliary contacts and tripping curve to the control circuit and load type.
