LED High Bay Luminaires Selection Guide
LED high bay luminaires come in UFO and long-body types; the body shape and the aluminum or polycarbonate housing material are decisive in selection.
This guide explains what to look at when choosing products in the LED High Bay Luminaires category.
Types of high bay luminaires
- UFO type: takes its name from the round, flat body; this body is mostly hung from a single point. Not all series with UFO in the product name are recorded with a round dimension in the data; verify the body shape from the product image and the dimension field.
- Long-body type: some of the models without UFO in the product name have a rectangular, long body; they are suited to being arranged in rows along a shelf aisle or a production line.
- Housing material: models with aluminum and polycarbonate housings are stated separately in the product names.
Similar luminaires are also listed in the custom LED high bay luminaire lighting category. LED tri-proof luminaires for damp or dusty spaces with low ceilings, LED floodlights for open areas and facades, and ex-proof luminaires for areas with an explosive atmosphere classification are separate product groups.
Illuminance target and number of luminaires
Sample maintained illuminance levels for high-ceiling spaces from the EN 12464-1 indoor workplace standard table:
- Shelf aisles where staff work: 150 lx
- Dispatch, packing and handling areas: 300 lx
- Welding work and rough and medium-precision machining: 300 lx
For high-rack warehouses, a manufacturer lighting guide also recommends at least 150 lx in aisles, at least 200 lx in open areas, and at least 300 lx in zones with heavy forklift traffic. The project specification and the current edition of the standard are the basis.
The effect of the target on the number of luminaires can be seen as follows: 200 lx over 1000 m² of open area means 200000 lm reaching the floor as a maintained value. Since light decreases as luminaires get dirty and age, the calculation is made with a maintenance factor; the product of the initial value and the maintenance factor gives the maintained value. Not all the light leaving the luminaire reaches the floor either; the exact number and layout come from a lighting calculation made with the manufacturer's photometric data.
Beam angle and mounting height
In the store data there are models with a recorded beam angle of 60° and 90°; in some ACK series, a lens with a special angle appears as a manufacturer option. A narrow angle concentrates the light on a smaller area and is useful at high mounting heights and between racks. A wide angle makes it easier, at lower mounting heights, for the light of the luminaires to overlap and for the distribution on the floor to be even. The choice of angle is tested in the calculation together with the mounting height and the luminaire spacing.
IP rating and ambient temperature
In the product data IP65 and IP66 predominate; there are also models recorded as IP64 and IP20. A first digit of 6 indicates that the housing is dust-tight. The second digit is protection against water: 4 splashing water, 5 water jets, 6 powerful water jets. IP20 includes no protection against dust or water; if you are considering a model recorded this way for a dusty or damp area, verify the rating from the manufacturer's data.
There are models with a maximum operating temperature given as +45 °C. Under a roof and near heat sources, compare the ambient temperature with this value.
Supply and control
High bay luminaires are mostly switched in groups; 20 luminaires of 150 W come to 3 kW, and you can make a preliminary check of the line current with the current and fuse calculation from active power tool. Because of the inrush current that LED drivers draw on first energizing, the number of luminaires that can be connected to one fuse or contactor is taken from the manufacturer's data; the group load can be controlled through lighting contactors.
In some ACK series, DALI, DIM and an emergency kit appear as manufacturer options; they must be specified in the order.
Brands in this category
- ACK: UFO and long-body LED high bay luminaires; 3000 K, 4000 K and 6500 K.
- MAS: LED high bay luminaires with aluminum and polycarbonate housings.
- İnoled: UFO high bay luminaires in the Apex and Robust series; the luminous flux and the ENEC-certified driver note are written in the product names.
Order notes
Products are sold per piece. A portion of them are listed as made-to-order; for these the lead time is confirmed before ordering. You can reach the model directly by typing the manufacturer code (for example AT43-19413) into the site search.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a UFO high bay luminaire and a long-body high bay luminaire?
The UFO type takes its name from the round, flat body and is mostly hung from a single point. The long-body type is rectangular and is suited to being arranged in rows along a shelf aisle or a production line. Which one is suitable depends on the ceiling structure, the suspension points and the calculation made with the luminaire's photometric data; verify the body shape from the dimensions on the product page.
How many lux are needed for warehouse lighting?
The EN 12464-1 standard table gives a maintained illuminance of 150 lx for shelf aisles where staff work, and 300 lx for dispatch, packing and handling areas. For high-rack warehouses, a manufacturer guide recommends at least 200 lx in open areas and at least 300 lx in zones with heavy forklift traffic. The targets for zones in the same warehouse may differ; the number of luminaires is determined zone by zone with a lighting calculation.
How many lumens does a 150 W LED high bay luminaire give?
It varies by series. In this category there are 150 W models giving 18750 lm, 20250 lm and 22500 lm; this is 125, 135 and 150 lm/W respectively. Make the comparison not on watts but on the luminous flux in the product name or on the product page; have the number of luminaires calculated with this value too.
At what height is a high bay luminaire hung?
There is no single limit value. The suitable height depends together on the luminous flux of the luminaire, the beam angle, the spacing between luminaires and the target illuminance. Narrow-angle models suit higher mounting, wide-angle models lower mounting. Since a high-lumen luminaire on a low ceiling can cause glare, the decision is made with a lighting calculation.
Which IP rating is chosen for a dusty workshop?
The first digit of the IP code indicates protection against dust; a value of 6 means the housing is dust-tight. In this category, IP65 and IP66 models predominate and both are dust-tight; the second digit distinguishes the degree of protection against water jets. If the environment has combustible dust or an explosive atmosphere classification, an ex-proof luminaire is required; the decision is made according to the project data.
