YSLY Control Cables Selection Guide

When selecting YSLY (YSLY-JZ / YSLY-OZ) control cables, compare core count, 0.50–2.5 mm² cross-section, green-yellow earth conductor and 300/500 V voltage rating.

This guide explains what to look for when choosing products in the YSLY Control Cables category for machine building, conveyor systems, PLC I/O wiring and contactor/solenoid control circuits.

Understanding YSLY-JZ vs YSLY-OZ designations

YSLY flexible control cables feature fine-stranded copper conductors (Class 5) with white-numbered black PVC cores for error-free termination across multi-core harnesses. YSLY-JZ cables include one Green-Yellow protective earth core alongside the numbered cores (denoted with "G", e.g. 7G1.5 mm² = 6 numbered cores + 1 earth). YSLY-OZ cables contain only numbered cores without a green-yellow conductor (denoted with "×", e.g. 2×0.75 mm²).

Core count and conductor cross-section (0.50 mm² – 2.5 mm²)

PLC digital inputs/outputs and pilot signals commonly use 0.50 mm², 0.75 mm² or 1.0 mm² cross-sections; contactor coils, solenoid valves and longer control runs use 1.5 mm²; and auxiliary power or small actuator feeds use 2.5 mm² and above. In multi-core control runs (12, 18, 25 or 34 cores), sizing 15%–20% spare cores simplifies future machine modifications.

Frequently asked questions

What do "G" and "x" mean in YSLY cable dimensions?

"G" (for example 5G1.5 mm²) indicates that one of the cores is a green-yellow protective earth conductor (JZ type), whereas "x" (for example 2×1.0 mm²) means no green-yellow earth core is present (OZ type).

How does a YSLY control cable differ from a standard H05VV-F (TTR) flexible cord?

H05VV-F cords use color-coded cores (up to 5 cores) for domestic appliances, while YSLY control cables use numbered cores (up to 40+ cores) and industrial-grade PVC outer sheaths engineered for machinery and control cabinets.

When should I switch from unshielded YSLY to shielded YSLYCY cable?

Whenever control cables run parallel to variable frequency drive (VFD) motor cables or high-current busbars, specify braided-shield YSLYCY cables to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) and false PLC triggers.
