Communication Antennas
Communication antennas are external antennas, connected to the device by cable, that let devices such as GSM modems and HMIs with wireless communication receive and transmit radio signals. Because a metal panel weakens radio signals, moving the antenna of the device inside the panel to the outside improves the continuity of the GSM, 4G or Wi-Fi connection. This group includes Tense external antennas with 5 dBi and 9 dBi gain, magnetic mounting, an SMA connector and a 3 m cable, as well as antennas for the GMT gHPro-4G and gHPro-Wifi HMI series. Choose the antenna by the frequency band the device operates on, connector type, gain value (dBi), cable length and mounting style. Higher gain helps at weak-signal locations, but loss also increases as the antenna cable gets longer. GSM and 4G antennas and Wi-Fi antennas are made for different frequency bands; one does not replace the other.

How to choose Communication Antennas
Communication antennas are external antennas, connected to the device by cable, that let devices such as GSM modems and HMIs with wireless communication receive and transmit radio signals. Because a metal panel weakens radio signals, moving the antenna of the device inside the panel to the outside improves the continuity of the GSM, 4G or Wi-Fi connection.
- Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
- Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
- Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.
