Photoelectric Sensors

Photoelectric sensors (photocells) are optical sensors that detect the presence of an object without contact by evaluating the interruption or reflection of the light they emit, and give a switching output. They are used where non-metallic objects must also be detected from a distance, such as counting products on a conveyor, position detection on packaging and filling lines, and object detection at doors and passage points. In this category, M12, M18 and M30 threaded cylindrical photoelectric sensors, rectangular-housing photoelectric sensors and photoelectric sensor reflectors are offered from the Lanbao and Isıso brands. There are three basic operating principles: in the through-beam type the transmitter and receiver are in separate housings, in the retroreflective type the light returns from a reflector, and in the diffuse reflective type the light reflected from the object is detected. Choose the photoelectric sensor first by the detection principle that suits the object's color, surface and transparency, then by sensing distance, housing shape, supply voltage and NPN, PNP or AC two-wire output. Versions of the same housing with a cable or M12 connector and with NO, NC or NO+NC output are listed as separate products.

How to choose Photoelectric Sensors

Photoelectric sensors (photocells) are optical sensors that detect the presence of an object without contact by evaluating the interruption or reflection of the light they emit, and give a switching output. They are used where non-metallic objects must also be detected from a distance, such as counting products on a conveyor, position detection on packaging and filling lines, and object detection at doors and passage points.

  • Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
  • Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
  • Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.
