Ammeters

An ammeter is a measuring instrument that measures and displays the current flowing through a circuit in amperes; panel-mount models are connected to the line directly in series or through a current transformer. It is used in distribution, power factor correction and machine panels to monitor phase currents and to see load balance and overload from the panel door. In this category, analog ammeters with a pointer and digital ammeters with a numeric display are offered in two subgroups; in addition to 48 × 48, 72 × 72 and 96 × 96 mm panel-mount housings, there are DIN rail models and DC ammeters. Select the ammeter by whether the current is AC or DC, whether the input is direct or with an X/5 A current transformer, measuring range, panel cut-out dimensions and supply voltage. On digital models with an X/5 A input, the current transformer ratio is set on the device, while DC models measure current through a measuring shunt with a 60 mV output. Analog pointer models operate without an auxiliary supply, while for digital models the supply voltage is specified separately. The subgroups include the brands Tense, Entes and Schneider Electric.

  • Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
  • Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
  • Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.
