Universal Controllers

A universal controller is a process controller that reads the current or voltage signal coming from a transmitter (in some models also thermocouple and PT100 sensors) and gives an output according to the setpoint; it is selected by input type, on-off or PID operating mode, output type, supply voltage and housing dimension. It is used in process panels where quantities such as pressure, level and flow are measured with standard signals such as 4-20 mA and 0-10 V, to manage a pump, valve or heater according to the setpoint. In this category, the Enda EU2011, EU4430 and EUC9526 and the GEMO UC104 and UC107 models are available in housings such as 48x48 mm, 72x72 mm and 96x96 mm; versions with relay or SSR outputs and RS485 Modbus communication are available. Not every model reads a temperature sensor directly, and some have only current and voltage signal inputs; if a thermocouple or PT100 will be connected, verify the input types from the manufacturer data. A universal controller must not be confused with a PID thermostat that has only a temperature sensor input; if a transmitter will be connected, the device must have a current or voltage input.

How to choose Universal Controllers

A universal controller is a process controller that reads the current or voltage signal coming from a transmitter (in some models also thermocouple and PT100 sensors) and gives an output according to the setpoint; it is selected by input type, on-off or PID operating mode, output type, supply voltage and housing dimension. • Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
  • Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
  • Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.
