Cable Glands
A cable gland is a threaded pass-through element that, at the point where the cable enters a panel or device housing, clamps the sheath with its seal, closes the entry against dust and water, and holds the cable against pulling. It is used in distribution and control panels, junction boxes, and motor and sensor connections to maintain the enclosure's IP degree of protection at the cable entry as well. Besides polyamide standard PG and euro-metric sealed glands, long-thread, closed-seal, spiral-end, nickel-plated brass, EMC-type and stainless steel models are in subgroups. Among Ortaç, Gwest, TP Elektrik and Isıso products there are metric sizes such as M 16, M 20, M 32 and PG sizes such as PG 9, PG 13.5, PG 21. Choose the cable gland first according to thread type (metric or PG) and hole size, then according to the clamping range matching the cable outer diameter, the housing material, the IP rating and the operating temperature. Metric gland threads conform to EN 60423 and PG threads to DIN 40430 dimensions, and the two systems cannot be used in place of each other. If the shield of a shielded cable is to be connected to the housing, the EMC type is preferred; in corrosion-prone environments, a stainless steel housing is preferred.
