Current Protection Relays

Current protection relays are electronic relays that continuously measure the load current and change the position of the output contact when the current goes outside an adjustable upper or lower threshold and the delay time has elapsed. They are used to disconnect the contactor against overload and jamming in motors and against the low current caused by dry running in pumps. The category includes Entes AKC series overcurrent and undercurrent relays, Tense TRM digital thermal overload relays and KON-TER models with a built-in contactor; current setting ranges such as 1-25 A, 15-50 A and 190-300 A are examples. Choose the protection direction (overcurrent or undercurrent), the current setting range, direct or current transformer connection, the delay time and the operating mode (automatic, semi-automatic or manual) according to the motor's rated current and the application. Current protection relays are not designed to interrupt short-circuit current; they do not replace a fuse or circuit breaker.

How to choose Current Protection Relays

Current protection relays are electronic relays that continuously measure the load current and change the position of the output contact when the current goes outside an adjustable upper or lower threshold and the delay time has elapsed. They are used to disconnect the contactor against overload and jamming in motors and against the low current caused by dry running in pumps.

  • Separate overcurrent/leakage protection, motor starting and local isolation requirements.
  • Select rated current, pole count and breaking capacity (kA) from the installation calculation.
  • Match coil voltage, auxiliary contacts and tripping curve to the control circuit and load type.
