Reactive power control relays are designed to reduce the reactive (inductive and capacitive) power that the loads do not use but that is drawn from the grid. If inductive reactive power is drawn from the mains, it intervenes by switching in a capacitor of suitable value. If capacitive reactive power is drawn from the mains, it intervenes by switching in a shunt reactor of suitable value. In this way, it tries to reduce the system's inductive/active and capacitive/active ratios. The RGT-MT18 is designed for more precise power factor correction in unbalanced inductive and capacitive systems with its TCR (SVC) step.
