What is the difference between LIYY and LIYCY cables?
Learn the shielding difference between LIYY and LIYCY signal cables. A short selection guide for interference, operating environment and technical compatibility.
What is the difference between LIYY and LIYCY?
| Criterion | LIYY Signal Cable | LIYCY Shielded Cable | LIHCH Halogen-Free Shielded Cable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shielding | Unshielded | Tinned copper braided screen (EMC protection) | Tinned copper braided screen (EMC protection) |
| Insulation and Sheath | PVC insulation, PVC outer sheath | PVC insulation, flame-retardant PVC sheath | Halogen-free (HFFR/LSZH) insulation and sheath |
| EMI Immunity | Low-noise short-run control and signal lines | Environments near VFDs, motors and power lines | Public buildings and plants requiring both LSZH and EMC shielding |

LIYY is an unshielded signal and control cable, while LIYCY is a signal and control cable with a braided shield. The tinned copper braid in Reçber's LIYCY construction protects against external electromagnetic interference.
When is LIYCY preferred?
It is considered when a shield is needed against electromagnetic interference on the signal line. The shield connection, the cable route and the device's installation instructions must be addressed together. A shielded cable alone does not solve all noise problems.
Can LIYY and LIYCY be used in every environment?
No. Operating voltage, temperature range, bending radius and the limits for fixed or moving use are checked in the manufacturer's datasheet. A cable being flexible does not mean it is suitable for a continuously moving cable carrier.
Are the same cores and cross-section enough?
No. The shielding requirement and the device's signal requirements must also match. Compare the signal cables; for the other selection steps, go to the cable selection guide.

Frequently asked questions
Should the braided copper shield of a LIYCY cable be grounded at one end or both ends?
For low-frequency analog instrument signals (4–20 mA, 0–10 V, PT100), the shield is typically grounded at the control panel (PLC) end only to prevent ground-loop currents; where high-frequency EMI from VFD drives dominates and equipotential bonding is verified, 360° shield clamping is used.
When should I choose twisted-pair LIYCY-TP instead of standard multi-core LIYCY?
Differential serial buses (RS-485, Modbus RTU), encoder signals and strain-gauge load cells require LIYCY-TP (Twisted Pair, e.g., 2×2×0.50 mm²) so common-mode magnetic interference cancels out across each twisted pair.
Can LIYY and LIYCY cables be used for 230 V / 400 V mains power distribution?
No. LIYY and LIYCY cables are low-current electronic signal and instrumentation cables; for 230/400 V AC mains and motor power circuits, use rated control or power cables such as YSLY-JZ, YSLYCY, NYM or N2XH.
