PTC Temperature Probes

A PTC temperature probe is a temperature sensor, supplied with its cable ready, that measures with a PTC element whose resistance increases as temperature rises. It is used with digital thermostats that have a PTC input to measure ambient or surface temperature in cooling, heating and air conditioning devices. This category includes GEMO PTC temperature sensors with and without fitting; besides the PTC-S-130C and PTC-H-130C models, versions with the AR2 prefix, specified by the manufacturer for its AR2 smart relay family, are also available. Select the standard or AR2 version by the device to be connected, the housing with or without fitting by the mounting style, and the measuring range and cable length by the application. PTC and NTC probes cannot be fitted in place of each other; verify from the user manual which sensor the device works with. A PTC temperature probe must not be confused with the motor protection PTC thermistor that is placed in motor windings and used with a thermistor relay; the probes here are for temperature measurement.

How to choose PTC Temperature Probes

A PTC temperature probe is a temperature sensor, supplied with its cable ready, that measures with a PTC element whose resistance increases as temperature rises. It is used with digital thermostats that have a PTC input to measure ambient or surface temperature in cooling, heating and air conditioning devices.

  • Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
  • Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
  • Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.
