Material Moisture Meters
Material moisture meters are handheld devices that show the moisture content inside wood and building materials. They are used when accepting lumber and parquet, in furniture and joinery manufacturing, and in tracing dampness or water leaks in walls and floors. This category includes the Unit UT377A wood moisture meter, which measures with pin tips that penetrate the material, and the pinless UT377C, which measures by contact with the surface and has wood, plasterboard and wall modes; both run on three AAA batteries. Compare the material you will measure, whether leaving a mark on the surface is a problem, pin or pinless measuring method, the moisture range and the material settings on the device. Pin measurement evaluates the point between the two tips, while pinless measurement evaluates the area under the sensor; therefore the readings of the two methods may not be exactly the same. A material moisture meter should not be confused with a hygrometer, which shows the relative humidity in the air.
