Cables

Cables are transmission elements made up of insulated conductors or optical fibers, and in most types a protective outer sheath, that carry electrical energy, control signals or data. They are used in building installations, enclosures, machine and automation lines, underground power distribution, fire detection systems and computer networks. Among the subgroups are Low Voltage Cables, which include types such as NYA, NYY, TTR and N2XH, Low-Current Cables, which include control and signal cables, Fire Cables, Ethernet LAN Cables and Fiber Optic Cables. Cables from brands such as Reçber, Birtaş, Mekas and Nexans are mostly sold by the meter, while products with a fixed length, such as HDMI and plugged connection cables, are sold individually. First determine the function of the line as power, control, fire or data, then choose the rated voltage, cross-section, number of cores, insulation and sheath material and, if needed, the shielding structure according to the installation environment and the project data. The manufacturer's technical table is the reference for values such as current carrying capacity, outer diameter and weight.

What to check when choosing cables

First define the circuit duty and installation route, then match conductor cross-section and cable construction to the project requirements.

  • Clarify the circuit duty first: power distribution, control, fire safety, Ethernet or analog signal.
  • Compare conductor cross-section, core count, insulation and shielding against the installation route.
  • Switch to the proper cable family early when flex duty, oil resistance, halogen-free jacket or fire integrity is required.

Cable selection questions

Is cable cross-section selected by current capacity alone?

No. Along with ampacity, voltage drop, short-circuit withstand, installation method and ambient temperature must be evaluated together.

Are cables with the same cross-section interchangeable?

Not always. Operating voltage, insulation compound, shielding, flexibility class and fire performance must also match the application.

What information is needed when ordering cables?

Specify the cable code or standard type, core count, conductor cross-section (mm²) and required length. Check sales unit and minimum order quantity on the product page.
