Power Network Analyzers

A power network analyzer, also known as an energy analyzer, is a measuring instrument that measures and displays the voltage, current, frequency, power factor, active and reactive power, energy and, depending on the model, harmonic values of a panel in a single device. It is used in distribution and power factor correction panels to monitor consumption, to see that correction is working properly, and to transfer measurements over communication to energy monitoring software. In addition to DIN rail and 96 × 96 mm panel-mount subgroups, the category includes Entes MPR, ABB M4M, Siemens 7KT and Schneider Electric PM series devices; models with RS-485 Modbus RTU, M-Bus and pulse outputs are available. Choose the analyzer by mounting style (DIN rail or panel door), supply voltage, current input (with current transformers, direct connection or Rogowski coil), harmonic measurement depth, accuracy class and communication protocol. For models used with current transformers, the transformer's secondary current (for example 5 A) must match the device's current input. Power quality analyzers, for points that require Class A or Class S measurement, are in a separate category.

How to choose Power Network Analyzers

A power network analyzer, also known as an energy analyzer, is a measuring instrument that measures and displays the voltage, current, frequency, power factor, active and reactive power, energy and, depending on the model, harmonic values of a panel in a single device. It is used in distribution and power factor correction panels to monitor consumption, to see that correction is working properly, and to transfer measurements over communication to energy monitoring software.

  • Take reactive power demand and harmonic distortion levels from site measurements or project calculations.
  • Compare kVAr step sizes, rated voltage and step count against the compensation panel layout.
  • Select capacitor duty contactors, harmonic filter reactors and discharge resistors together with the capacitor bank.
