Temperature Modules

Temperature modules are analog input modules that connect thermocouples and resistance thermometers such as PT100 directly to the PLC and convert the sensor signal into a temperature value. They are used on furnace, extruder, plastic injection, drying and cooling lines to read temperature at multiple points without a separate transmitter and to set up a PID loop in the PLC. The category includes the Delta Electronics AX-5 series, DVP04PT-S and DVP04TC-S right-expansion modules, and GMT GXM-20UA and GXM-40UA universal-input modules; 2-channel and 4-channel models with PT100, PT1000, Ni100 and Ni1000 resistance thermometer inputs and J, K, R, S, T, E and N type thermocouple inputs are available. Select the module according to the sensor type (resistance thermometer or thermocouple), the channel count that covers the number of measuring points, the resolution and the PLC series it will be installed on. A module with resistance thermometer inputs is not a substitute for a module with thermocouple inputs; a resistance thermometer measures resistance, a thermocouple measures voltage at the millivolt level, and only universal-input models accept both.

How to choose Temperature Modules

Temperature modules are analog input modules that connect thermocouples and resistance thermometers such as PT100 directly to the PLC and convert the sensor signal into a temperature value. They are used on furnace, extruder, plastic injection, drying and cooling lines to read temperature at multiple points without a separate transmitter and to set up a PID loop in the PLC.

  • Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
  • Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
  • Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.

Frequently asked questions

What is Temperature Modules and where is it used?

Temperature modules are analog input modules that connect thermocouples and resistance thermometers such as PT100 directly to the PLC and convert the sensor signal into a temperature value. They are used on furnace, extruder, plastic injection, drying and cooling lines to read temperature at multiple points without a separate transmitter and to set up a PID loop in the PLC.

What should I compare when choosing Temperature Modules?

Select the module according to the sensor type (resistance thermometer or thermocouple), the channel count that covers the number of measuring points, the resolution and the PLC series it will be installed on.

Where can I find technical details for Temperature Modules products?

A module with resistance thermometer inputs is not a substitute for a module with thermocouple inputs; a resistance thermometer measures resistance, a thermocouple measures voltage at the millivolt level, and only universal-input models accept both.
