Thermocouple and PT100 Compensation Cables
A thermocouple compensation cable is a measurement cable that extends the line between a thermocouple and a measuring instrument without distorting the thermoelectric voltage, with conductors made of alloys matching the thermocouple type; a PT100 cable is a multi-core connection cable that connects a resistance thermometer to the instrument. In furnaces, extruders, injection molding machines and process lines, it carries the sensor signal to the measuring instrument in the panel, to a transmitter or to a PLC temperature module. Choose the cable type according to the sensor (J, K or PT100); on a PT100 cable, choose the number of cores according to whether the connection is 2-, 3- or 4-wire, the cross-section according to the line length, and the outer sheath according to the ambient temperature and mechanical stress. A copper-conductor signal cable does not replace a thermocouple compensation cable; the temperature difference between the junction point and the instrument shows up as a measurement error.
