Star-Delta Switches
A star-delta switch is a cam switch with star and delta positions that lowers the starting current of a three-phase asynchronous motor by connecting it first in star and then in delta. It is used on compressor, pump, fan and machine tool motors where no automatic contactor-based starter is used, so that the operator starts the motor by hand. The category includes Opaş and Metop brand three-phase models in currents such as 16 A, 25 A, 40 A, 63 A and 80 A, with center-0 and enclosed types; Opaş models are offered in 66x66 and 90x90 mm frame sizes. Choose the current according to the motor's nameplate current in delta connection, the standard or center-0 position arrangement according to the way of operation, and the frame size and enclosure need according to the mounting location. This method can only be applied to motors that run in delta at mains voltage and have all six winding ends brought out to the terminal box. A star-delta cam switch is not an automatic star-delta starter; it contains no timer relay or contactor, and the operator makes the change from star to delta.
