Standard Step Switches

A standard step switch is a single- or three-phase multi-position cam switch that engages the next step with each step of the handle. It is used to change the operating step by hand on tapped transformers, heater resistor groups, multi-speed fans and similar loads. The category includes Opaş and Metop brand types such as 1- and 3-phase with 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10 steps in currents such as 16 A, 25 A, 40 A, 63 A and 80 A; for Opaş models, the 66x66 or 90x90 mm frame size and series with terminal connections are stated separately. Choose the number of steps according to the number of taps on the load, the rated current according to the highest step current, the number of phases according to the circuit and the frame size according to the mounting location. The term with 0 in the product name indicates that the switch has an off position. A step switch is not a dimmer or speed controller; it only switches between the ready-made taps of the load or transformer.

How to choose Standard Step Switches

A standard step switch is a single- or three-phase multi-position cam switch that engages the next step with each step of the handle. It is used to change the operating step by hand on tapped transformers, heater resistor groups, multi-speed fans and similar loads.

  • Separate overcurrent/leakage protection, motor starting and local isolation requirements.
  • Select rated current, pole count and breaking capacity (kA) from the installation calculation.
  • Match coil voltage, auxiliary contacts and tripping curve to the control circuit and load type.
