CAT6 Cables

CAT6 cable is a four-twisted-pair copper Ethernet cable defined up to 250 MHz bandwidth; it carries 1 Gbps Ethernet up to 100 meters and 10 Gbps Ethernet only over short distances. It is used on socket lines in office, school, hotel and residential structured cabling, for connecting PoE devices such as IP cameras and wireless access points, and for network distribution inside cabinets and panels. In this category, CAT6 cables from Mekas, Reçber, Birtaş and Erse in U/UTP unshielded, F/UTP foil-shielded and SF/UTP foil-and-braid-shielded types are sold by the meter in constructions such as 4x2x23 AWG and 4x2x24 AWG, with PVC, halogen-free (LSZH) and, for outdoor use, PE sheaths. A steel-armored type and ready-made CAT6 cables with RJ45 ends in lengths such as 0.5 m, 1 m, 2 m and 5 m are also included. Choose the shield construction according to the electrical noise in the environment, the conductor gauge according to line length and PoE load, the sheath according to indoor or outdoor installation, and the reaction-to-fire class according to the project specification. CAT6 and CAT6a are not the same cable; for 10 Gbps on a 100-meter link, CAT6a, defined up to 500 MHz, is required.

How to choose CAT6 Cables

CAT6 cable is a four-twisted-pair copper Ethernet cable defined up to 250 MHz bandwidth; it carries 1 Gbps Ethernet up to 100 meters and 10 Gbps Ethernet only over short distances. It is used on socket lines in office, school, hotel and residential structured cabling, for connecting PoE devices such as IP cameras and wireless access points, and for network distribution inside cabinets and panels.

  • Clarify the circuit duty first: power distribution, control, fire safety, Ethernet or analog signal.
  • Compare conductor cross-section, core count, insulation and shielding against the installation route.
  • Switch to the proper cable family early when flex duty, oil resistance, halogen-free jacket or fire integrity is required.
