Fire-Resistant Cables

A fire-resistant cable is a cable that maintains circuit integrity under flame for a set time, allowing the system it is connected to to keep operating during a fire. It is used on the signal and control lines of systems that must operate during a fire, such as fire detection and warning, emergency announcement, emergency lighting and smoke extraction. The subcategories are divided by construction: unshielded LIHH, copper-braid-shielded LIHCH, foil-shielded LIH(St)H, foil-and-braid-shielded LIH(St)CH, twisted-pair JE-H(St)H and silicone-insulated, silicone-sheathed SIMH; Reçber, Birtaş, Erse and Mekas products are listed by the meter in cross-sections such as 2x0.75 mm², 4x1.5 mm² and 4x2.5 mm². Compare the resistance class the project requires (FE180, PH120 or E30), the shielding need, the number of cores and the cross-section against the requirements of the system manufacturer and the project specification. E30 is the functional continuity class in which the cable is tested as a system together with its supports and fixings. Being halogen-free or flame-retardant does not mean being fire-resistant; look for the FE180 or PH120 marking in the product name.

How to choose Fire-Resistant Cables

A fire-resistant cable is a cable that maintains circuit integrity under flame for a set time, allowing the system it is connected to to keep operating during a fire. It is used on the signal and control lines of systems that must operate during a fire, such as fire detection and warning, emergency announcement, emergency lighting and smoke extraction.

  • Clarify the circuit duty first: power distribution, control, fire safety, Ethernet or analog signal.
  • Compare conductor cross-section, core count, insulation and shielding against the installation route.
  • Switch to the proper cable family early when flex duty, oil resistance, halogen-free jacket or fire integrity is required.
