Process Calibrators

A process calibrator is a handheld test device that both measures and generates process signals such as 4-20 mA current loops, DC voltage, resistance and temperature sensors, and is used to test the accuracy of field devices. It is used in commissioning, periodic verification and troubleshooting of instruments such as transmitters, PLC analog input cards, indicators, recorders and valve positioners. This category lists Unit-branded temperature calibrator, current and voltage calibrator, loop calibrator and multifunction process calibrator models. Choose the signal types to be generated and measured according to the input and output of the device you will calibrate, the accuracy according to that device's tolerance, and the source or simulation (SIM) mode of the current output according to how the loop is powered. In simulation mode, the calibrator replaces a two-wire transmitter in a current loop powered by an external source and sets the loop current. A standard multimeter without a signal generation feature can only read loop current and voltage and does not replace a process calibrator.

How to choose Process Calibrators

A process calibrator is a handheld test device that both measures and generates process signals such as 4-20 mA current loops, DC voltage, resistance and temperature sensors, and is used to test the accuracy of field devices. It is used in commissioning, periodic verification and troubleshooting of instruments such as transmitters, PLC analog input cards, indicators, recorders and valve positioners.

  • Identify the measurement or fastening task and the required insulation safety rating.
  • Select jaw profile, cross-section range and accessories for the conductor or fastener standard.
  • Check CAT voltage category and replacement tip or die availability for field conditions.

Frequently asked questions

What is Process Calibrators and where is it used?

A process calibrator is a handheld test device that both measures and generates process signals such as 4-20 mA current loops, DC voltage, resistance and temperature sensors, and is used to test the accuracy of field devices. It is used in commissioning, periodic verification and troubleshooting of instruments such as transmitters, PLC analog input cards, indicators, recorders and valve positioners.

What should I compare when choosing Process Calibrators?

Choose the signal types to be generated and measured according to the input and output of the device you will calibrate, the accuracy according to that device's tolerance, and the source or simulation (SIM) mode of the current output according to how the loop is powered.

Where can I find technical details for Process Calibrators products?

In simulation mode, the calibrator replaces a two-wire transmitter in a current loop powered by an external source and sets the loop current.
