Capacitive Sensors

Capacitive sensors are proximity sensors that detect solid, powder and liquid materials without contact, whether metallic or not, by measuring the change in capacitance caused by an object entering the electric field in front of the sensing surface. They are used to detect granule and powder levels in silos, liquid behind a plastic or glass container, and wood, paper and plastic parts. The category includes Isıso models with M12, M18 and M30 housings, sensing distances such as 4 mm, 8 mm and 15 mm, and flush and non-flush heads; there are NPN and PNP types with 10-30 V DC supply and NO or NC types with 20-250 V AC and 90-250 V AC supply. Choose the housing diameter according to the mounting hole, the sensing distance according to the material, the flush or non-flush head according to the mounting style, the supply according to your DC or AC circuit, and the output according to the PLC input type. The sensing distance depends on the dielectric constant of the material; dry plastic, wood or grain is detected from a shorter distance than water and metal. They must not be confused with inductive sensors; an inductive sensor detects only metal, whereas a capacitive sensor also detects non-metallic materials.

  • Separate sensing, motion control, logic processing and operator interface requirements.
  • Select signal type, supply voltage, communication protocol and I/O count for the machine network.
  • Verify housing size, sensing distance and PNP/NPN output polarity against the PLC input card.
