What Is an Emergency Lighting Kit? Types and Selection Criteria
An emergency lighting kit is a battery, charger and driver set added to a normal LED luminaire that keeps it lit on its own battery for a set time during a power cut.
An emergency lighting kit (emergency kit) is a set of battery, charging circuit and driver that is added to a normal LED luminaire to turn it into an emergency luminaire. While mains is present the kit charges the battery; when power fails it lights the LED from its own battery for the stated duration, usually at reduced power. It is used in escape routes, stairwells, car parks and production areas to include some of the existing luminaires in emergency lighting without fitting separate emergency luminaires.
Kits in the catalog
| Model | Information in the product data | Note |
|---|---|---|
| İnoled 9010 | Output power 3 W, emergency duration 2 hours | General-purpose kit |
| CATA CT-2544 | Compatible LED power 3–60 W, 220 V, 4 x 15 x 2.8 cm | Kit driver |
| MAS-3105 | Listed in the aluminium high-bay, LED weatherproof and polycarbonate high-bay luminaire groups | Kit for MAS luminaires |
Selection criteria
- Emergency duration: The kit's duration must meet the duration required by the project and the fire regulations. The İnoled 9010 runs for 2 hours; check the duration of the others in the datasheet.
- Output power and light: In emergency mode the LED runs at the kit's output power, which is usually lower than normal power. Calculate the light level needed on the escape route from the luminous flux in emergency mode.
- LED compatibility: The kit must suit the power and voltage range of the LED module in the luminaire. The CATA CT-2544 is given for 3–60 W LEDs; compare the LED module's voltage with the range in the datasheet.
- Fitting in the luminaire: The kit and battery must fit inside or next to the luminaire. The CT-2544 measures 4 x 15 x 2.8 cm.
- Connection: The kit's charging input is fed from a permanently live phase, independent of the luminaire's switch. The switched phase only turns normal lighting on and off.
Common mistakes
- Connecting the charging input to the switched phase: The battery does not charge while the light is off, and the luminaire does not light during a power cut.
- Not testing the battery: Batteries lose capacity over time; test the emergency lighting at regular intervals by simulating a power cut and check the duration.
- Placing the kit at a hot spot: High temperature shortens battery life; keep to the ambient temperature limit in the datasheet.

Frequently asked questions
What does an emergency lighting kit do?
It turns a normal LED luminaire into an emergency luminaire that lights from its own battery during a power cut.
Does a luminaire with an emergency kit run at full power during a power cut?
Usually not. In emergency mode the LED runs at the kit's output power; the İnoled 9010, for example, has a 3 W output. Plan the light level accordingly.
Kit or ready-made emergency luminaire?
A kit to include some existing luminaires in emergency lighting; a ready-made emergency lighting luminaire where a separate, standard emergency luminaire is needed.
